His writings on eucalypts were published in Telopea (formerly Contributions of the New South Wales National Herbarium) He has been on the staff of the University of New South Wales until he joined the New South Wales National Herbarium in 1968. From 1974-1975 he was Australian Botanical Liaison Officer at the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, London. Donald Blaxell named many more species of Eucalyptus than indicated here. Eucalyptus blaxellii (L.A.S. Johnson & K.D.
