He developed an interest in the native vegetation of far northern Australia and started collecting plant specimens. He sent specimens to the Kew Herbarium, England, the National Herbarium in Melbourne, the Berlin Herbarium, and to William Blakely at the Sydney Herbarium. One species of eucalypt, Eucalyptus bleeseri, and two grasses, Eragostis bleeseri and Eriachne bleeseri, are named in his honour. 1889 Career position - Worked at the South Australian Postmaster-General's Department 1889 c. 1941 Career position - Worked at the Darwin Post Office 1927 1927 Taxonomy event - Eucalyptus bleeseri Blakely was named in his honour.
