Florenz Bleeser worked in the South Australian Postmaster-General's Department before embarking on a 52-year career at the Darwin Post Office. He developed an interest in the native vegetation of far northern Australia and started collecting plant specimens. He sent specimens to the Kew Herbarium, England, the National Herbarium in Melbourne, the Berlin Herbarium, and to William Blakely at the Sydney Herbarium. One species of eucalypt, Eucalyptus bleeseri, and two grasses, Eragostis bleeseri and Eriachne bleeseri, are named in his honour.
