The Genetics Society of Australia was established in 1952. Areas of interest covered by the Society include: animal and plant breeding, biochemical and molecular genetics, biometrical and statistical genetics, cytogenetics, developmental genetics, ecological and population genetics, human genetics and microbial genetics. Around 2005 it changed its name to the "Genetics Society of AustralAsia" and one presumes it also changed its govenance and membership arrangements.

This set of conference booklets for the Annual Meetings of Genetics Society of Australia (1952 - 2004, numbers 1 - 51 see details below) and the Genetics Society of AustralAsia (2005 - , numbers 52 - ) was assembled and digitised by David Smyth and John Sved. It is an open series and it is presumed that it will be added to on an annual basis. Number 1, 18-19 August 1952, University of Sydeny in incomplete but includes an extract from the "The Australian Plant Breeding and Genetics Newsletter". Despite the year (1957) in the URL to set does start in 1952. The early meetings, 1952-1954, were held prior to an ANZAAS meeting and were referred to as the "Genetical Society [of Australia]". In 1955-1957 they were named the "Australian Genetics Society" and from 1958- 2004 "Genetics Society of Australia".
