<biogHist>
<abstract>John Rattigan began his career in geology with the Bureau of Mineral Resources. He later worked for an Australian arm of the Rio Tinto Company, before taking up academic roles at the University of New South Wales, Newcastle, and a visiting professorship at the University of California. Rattigan later worked with Texas Instruments, and held a range of roles at CSR Limited, retiring as Director of Exploration subsidiaries. He was a foundation Member of the Geological Society of Australia when it was established in August 1952, and later became a fellow of the Society.</abstract>
