AACR2 20 May 1943 Place of Birth Perth, Western Australia, Australia Geophysicist David Jupp is a geophysicist with specialist knowledge in the application of remote sensor technology in the surveying and mapping land and water resources. In the mid-1980s Jupp and his team at the CSIRO Division of Land Use Research worked in collaboration with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority to devise a faster method of surveying and mapping the reef. They harnessed the potential of satellite imaging to create the Barrier Reef Image Analysis System (BRIAN), a much faster and more thorough approach than traditional surveying methods. Jupp's team was awarded a CSIRO Medal for Research Achievement for his work. Jupp also worked on applications of Hyperspectral and Lidar technologies to water and vegetation surveying and mapping CSIRO Water Resources and later the CSIRO Earth Observation Centre and the CSIRO Space Science and Applications. He retired from the CSIRO in 2009 after 33 years.

In 1986 Jupp (with colleagues) was awarded the CSIRO Medal for Research Achievement for his work in developing remote sensing research in the Division of Land and water Resources and the BRIAN (Barrier Reef Image ANalysis) system.
