<abstract>Allan Antcliff was a botanist who specialised in grape vine physiology and breeding. He worked in the horticultural research division of the CSIR (later the CSIRO) for almost forty years as a research scientist (1947-1963), a principal research scientist (1963-1967) and a principal research scientist (1967-1984). He is renowned for developing grape varieties that produced unprecedented yields, including the <span style="font-style:italic">Tarrango</span> and <span style="font-style:italic">Taminga</span> varieties.</abstract>
