William Robertson was an astronomer who worked at the Sydney Observatory from 1942 to 1982.
<p>Robertson was appointed assistant during Harley Wood's time as Government Astronomer. He was the last person to be appointed New South Wales Government Astronomer and held that position from 1974 up until the Observatory's closure as a research facility in 1982.</p>
<p>In September 1973 Robertson made a historic observation an occultation of the small planet Ceres, though his observation remained unacknowledged until 2009.</p>
