Gordon James Sewards was a wastewater treatment expert. He arrived in Australia in 1968 and immediately took up chemical engineering studies at the University of Melbourne, followed by a Master of Engineering Science at the Monash University (1970). After completing his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Sewards joined Calwell Connell Engineers in 1975 and eventually became Associate Director there. He left in 1984 and worked as Associate Director with Binnie and Partners then set up his own company, Envirocon Consulting Engineering. Through this company he developed international recognition as an expert in wastewater management, treatment and odour control. Sewards consulted and helped establish treatment plants in many countries including Egypt, China and the United States of America.
