Yik Man Fung was instrumental in the success and acceptance of the HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) technique. After completing his postdoctoral studies in organic chemistry at the University of Sydney, Fung joined ICI Research Group in Melbourne. There he worked on developing new health care products. Next he moved to ICI Instruments where he began working on improving the applications of HPLC technology. In 1993 Fung joined GBC Scientific Instruments where he linked HPLC to amino acid analysis. This proved a big winner for GBC whose instruments sold readily. Within two years of joining GBC, he was made HPLC Product Manger. Yik Fing became a worldwide recognised HPLC expert.
