<abstract>Byron Lionel Stanton initially qualified as a pharmacist, but then took up medical studies. After graduating he worked at the Melbourne and Children's hospitals before spending a year in the Australian Army Medical Corps, Australian Imperial Force. Upon returning to Melbourne he set up a private medicine practice which he ran for many years. He also lectured to both the medicine and pharmacy courses at the University of Melbourne and the College of Pharmacy. In fact at one point he was lecturer of Pharmacy and Materia Medica to his fellow medical students. Stanton was Head of the Department of Materia Medica at the College of Pharmacy from 1927 to 1963.</abstract>
