He authored many works detailing this material including the Historical catalogue of scientists and scientific books from the earliest times to the close of the 19th Century (1984). Gascoigne as himself a scientist having worked in the field of organic chemistry for many years. His main area of research was on the tetracyclic triterpenses produced by Australian native plants.
