His laboratory is concerned with two broad aspects of brain function. Firstly, factors which determine the accuracy of voluntary movement are studied in normal and neurologically-impaired patients to try to understand movement control as well as develop new diagnostic tests; secondly the way in which the brain regulates breathing, blood pressure and heart rate are studied to try and find improved methods of treatment for diseases like high blood pressure.
