He has been at the University since 1978 and has built up an international reputation as a leading specialist in fluid and particle mechanics involving surface chemistry. One of his most noted achievements is the development of the JAMESON flotation cell which has gained worldwide acceptance and is used in leading mineral processing plants. The cell uses flotation to remove oil, grease and suspended solids from industrial waste water and effluent.
