Robert Leith Dewar was internationally recognised for his research in the field of theoretical plasma physics. He made significant contributions to magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and in dynamical systems such asM MD equilibrium and stability, MHD balooning modes, Taylor relaxation and Hamiltonian maps. Dewar was Professor of Physics at the Institute of Advanced Studies in the Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering at the Australian National University (ANU). He coordinated the ANU Centre for Theoretical Physics and was Convenor of the Australian Research Council Complex Open Systems Research Network. Before starting at the ANU, Dewar spent several years studying and working at Princeton University in the USA after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Melbourne.
