He later went on to complete postgraduate studies in electronics, industrial engineering and management. Hale initially worked for the SEC (State Electricity Commission) in power generation then moved to the Maryvale Paper Mill, where he was later appointed Chief Engineer. In 1970 Hale started up his own import company to have a break from engineering, but in 1979 returned to the field as a private consultant with his own company.
