Charles Hoadley was a geologist who joined the Australasian Antarctic Expedition in 1911. As a member of the Western Base party (Queen Mary Land) he participated in a 480 km trip into Kaiser Wilhelm II Land, exploring Haswell Island and Gaussberg, and collecting specimens. Hoadley left Antarctica with most Expedition members in February 1913. After returning from Antarctica he was for several years Senior Lecturer in Engineering at the Ballarat School of Mines and Industry. From 1916 to 1947 he was Principal of the Footscray Technical School. He was a committed advocate for technical education. Hoadley also made a significant contribution to the scouting movement in Victoria. Cape Hoadley in Eastern Antarctica is named in his honour.
