<abstract>Evan Stanley trained in geology at the University of Adelaide. He was the first Government Geologist for Papua, 1911-1924. As well as conducting investigations into the regional geology, mineral deposits and indications of petroleum in Papua, Stanley was also involved in the Commonwealth Scientific Expedition to New Guinea in 1920-1922.</abstract>

The collection also includes a typescript chronology of Stanley's life prepared by Hugh Davis, 1985-1986, and copies of correspondence gathered by Davis in the course of his research 1966-1985.</abstract>
