Diana Temple was appointed Member of the Order of Australia, 26 January 1999, for service to medical and scientific research, particularly in the field of respiratory pharmacology, as an advocate for the role of women in science and in promoting an understanding of science by the general public.
<p>From Pincock, Stephen <span style="font-style:italic">The Lancet</span> (2006):<br />
"Her main research interest was respiratory pharmacology. During her career she published more than 100 papers and supervised 41 research students. To this day, the pharmacology of respiration is a strength of the faculty. Temple was head of the pharmacology department from 1976 to 1979, at a time when its future was in question. In 1990, she retired as associate professor, and was made an honorary associate of the department of pharmacology, a life member of the faculty of medicine in 1995, and an honorary fellow of the University in 2000.</p>
<p>Alongside her academic pursuits, Temple also served on the council of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science and helped administer Australia's national Eureka Prizes for Science. She also served on the New South Wales Privacy Commission."</p>
