Shepherd was Chair of Powerlink (Queensland) and on the board of both the National Electricity Market Management Company and the International Electrotechnocal Council. She was a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia's Accreditation Board and National Industry Liaison Board. Shepherd also lectured in Queensland universities. On being named named Queensland Engineer of the Year by the Queensland Division, Institution of Engineers Australia, she could not attend meetings because they were held in the local men's club.
