Lyn Beazley is a neuroscientist widely recognised for her research on vision and its recovery from injury. Her work with John Newnham led to changes in clinical practice in the administration of corticosteroids to women at risk of pre-term delivery. In 1994 she became Professor of Zoology at the University of Western Australia. From 2006 to 2013 Beazley was Chief Scientist of Western Australia, during which time she was influential in securing the low-frequency part of the Square Kilometre Array (SKS-low) for Western Australia. She has positions concerned with the management of a number of scientific organisations including the Royal Perth Hospital Research Foundation, the Western Australian Museum, the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network and the Ear Sciences Institute of Australia. In addition she has been Patron of the Western Australian Naturalists Club and Vice-Patron of the Royal Society of Western Australia.
