From 1968 to 1991 Adams spent much of her time teaching and lecturing at many varied institutes throughout New South Wales. Lyn Adams also sat on many boards and committees and was member of 48 professional bodies. She was Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of La Trobe University (Bendigo) in 1994, then from 1995 - 1996 was a senior research scientist in the aboriginal research unit at the University of New South Wales.
