<abstract>Jim Woodcock worked for CSIRO Division of Minerals, from 1951 until he retired in 1990, rising to Senior Principal Research Scientist, and he then continued as an Honorary Fellow. He wrote <span style="font-style:italic">The Metallurgy of Gold and Silver with Reference to Other Precious Metals</span> (1976), as well as editing a large number of publications between 1967 and 1993.

His distinguished contribution to mineral chemistry research at CSIRO, to his authorship, editorship and honorary work with the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, was recognised when he was awarded the President's Award in 1980, and an Honorary Fellowship in 1992.</abstract>
