Charles Grant Tindal arrived in Australia in 1843 and returned to England in 1862. In 1852 he bought Ramornie homestead on the Clarence River near Grafton, where he bred horses and cattle. In 1865 he formed the Australian Meat Company in London. The major product was canned meats, but preserved meat, tallow, artificial manure, hides and pelts were also produced.
