He also concurrently holds several consulting and editorial board positions. Masters has researched neurodegenerative diseases including Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease (CJD) and Alzheimer's disease for over 30 years. He exposed the molecular, genetic and biochemical pathways underlying Alzheimer's disease, which have been important in developing new treatment regimes for Alzheimer's disease. Masters also defined the world-wide epidemiology of CJD and the nature of its spongiform changes.
