He travelled abroad in about 1911 to assess the merits of various automatic equipment designs. This led to the announcement that automatic equipment (phones) would be used for new exchanges in capital city networks. Initially Hesketh was a member of the Queensland Post Office but then went on to train as an electrical engineer. Queensland Electrical Association (1898 - 1911)
