He pioneered the application of electric welding of gas-holder construction, and in 1922, he built in South Melbourne the first all-electrically welded gas holder in the world. The practice was quickly extended and adopted throughout the world. The 2.75 million cubic foot gasholder he built at Fitzroy Gasworks, completed in 1926, was for many decades the world's largest all welded structure. Victorian Institute of Engineers (1883 - 1949)
