Harry Storer was officer in charge of the Mildura meteorological office of the Bureau of Meteorology from its inception in 1946 to his retirement in 1972. Thus he worked in the Public Service for 50 years, 32 of those with the Bureau of Meteorology. Storer first joined the Commonwealth Public Service as a Telegraph Messenger in 1922, but only after a short while transferred to Mildura Post Office as a Postal Assistant (1922). From 1935 his duties included taking of the 0900 and 1500 weather observations, using the old Australian word code. In 1940 he undertook training on the second meteorological observer's course with the Bureau of Meteorology and was used on relieving duty at many places including Central Office, Mascot, Oodnadatta, Ceduna, Parafield, Essendon, Laverton, Bairnsdale and Mallacoota. Storer served in the RAAF Meteorological Service and was later appointed Officer in charge of the new meteorological station at Mildura in 1946. From 1961 Harry Storer worked on the HIBAL project.
