He specialised in tropical cyclone research. While at the Bureau he trained staff to perform Radiosonde and Rawin computations, to repair and service the Windfinding Radar equipment (1958); and to receive, grid and interpret satellite cloud pictures (1966). In 1966 he was appointed Acting Assistant Director in charge of the Synoptic Division. Lajoie was a member of the World Meteorological Organization Working Group on Meteorological Telecommunications for Africa and a member for Mauritius of C. Ae.
