<abstract>France Lajoie joined the Bureau of Meteorology in 1969 as an experienced meteorologist, having worked for many years in the weather service of his home country, Mauritius. He specialised in tropical cyclone research. While at the Bureau he trained staff to perform Radiosonde and Rawin computations, to repair and service the Windfinding Radar equipment (1958); and to receive, grid and interpret satellite cloud pictures (1966). In 1966 he was appointed Acting Assistant Director in charge of the Synoptic Division. Lajoie was a member of the World Meteorological Organization Working Group on Meteorological Telecommunications for Africa and a member for Mauritius of C. Ae. M.</abstract>
