<abstract>Graham Pizzey wrote about and photographed Australia's birds and other animals. In 1991 he and his wife, Sue, established a home in 40 ha. of bushland adjacent to the Grampians/Gariwerd National Park near Dunkeld, Victoria, where they revitalised habitats by creating wetlands and planting local vegetation.</abstract>
<p>Born Melbourne, 4 July 1930. Died Melbourne, 12 November 2001. AM 1975. Educated Geelong Grammar School. Naturalist, early ABC wildlife film series, including the award-winning <span style="font-style:italic">Dancing Orpheus</span>; known for his contributions to newspapers and magazines, including writing a weekly article for the <span style="font-style:italic">Melbourne Herald</span> for nearly 20 years, and for his books, films and videos on natural history; Honorary Ornithologist, Museum Victoria. Author of several books. C.J. Dennis prize for literary merit, Victorian Government 1981 and Best Field Guide on the Natural History of Animals of the Australian Region, Royal Zoological Society of New South Wales 1981, both awarded for <span style="font-style:italic">Field Guide to the Birds of Australia</span> (Collins, 1980). Australian Natural History Medallion 1986. Councillor, Australian Conservation Foundation; Councillor, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union; member, Victorian National Park Authority; Warden, Coolart Reserve, near Somers, Victoria; Founding President, Friends of the Victoria Museum. From 1984, led annual 'Bird Weeks' at O'Reilly's Green Mountain Resort, Lamington National Park, Queensland, and at Gipsy Point, Mallacoota, Victoria.</p>
