Alexander Morgan was a physician who, after qualifying MS BS at the University of Adelaide, practiced in the South Australian towns of Laura and Stone until 1898, and then Adelaide until c.1907. After a period in the United Kingdom as an occulist, he returned to Adelaide where he remained in practice until retiring. Morgan was an enthusiastic ornithologist and played a leading role in the local ornithological societies for many years, including as an early member of the Royal Australasian Ornithological Union, and serving five terms as President of the South Australian Ornithological Association. He was Honorary Ornithologist at the South Australian Institute from 1922. In 1927 he donated to the Institute his collection of avian osteological specimens, with a further donation in 1934 of his oological collection and about 500 bird-skins. Morgan also was a member of the Flora and Fauna Board of South Australia.
