President, Bird Observers' Club 1956-58; treasurer, Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union 1954-56 and secretary 1956-58; librarian and Editorial Liaison Officer, Bird Observers' Club for many years; conducted bird identification courses for the Victorian Council of Adult Education from 1974; selection committee member, Australian Natural History Medallion from 1968.
