Educated Massey University, New Zealand (agricultural science) and Monash (PhD). Study and preparation of a management plan for the Plains-wanderer 1984-87; research on Red Goshawks in the Northern Territory 1988-89; Victorian Department of Conservation and Natural Resources 1990-92, with responsibility for statewide programs and policies on threatened wildlife; Director of RAOU / Birds Australia 1993-1997 and Conservation Manager from 1997. A significant event for RAOU that took place during his term as Director was the purchase of Gluepot Station, a Murray Mallee reserve in South Australia. Led courses at Bird Observatories and many bird study trips; sometime chairperson, RAOU Conservation committee, and president, Australasian Raptor Association. Designer and coordinator, BOP (Birds of Prey) Watch 1986-90. In his work as an Environmental Consultant since 1997, he has been Chair of the Species Recovery Team for the Plains-wanderer, the subject of the first RAOU Conservation Statement. Baker-Gabb also chairs the Management Committee for the Birds Australia Gluepot Reserve.
