He played a prominent role in the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, being Chairman of the Court of Examiners and of the South Australian State Committee. Lendon was also a keen conservationist and ornithologist. He was involved in the Fauna and Flora Board which managed Flinders Chase, and Chairman of the Flora and Fauna Advisory Committee to the South Australian Minister of Agriculture. His ornithological interests led him to serve as President of several local bird organisations, including the Avicultural Society of South Australia, the South Australian Ornithological Association, and the Royal Australasian Ornithological Union. Lendon's particular interest was in the breeding birds in captivity. He was awarded twelve Bronze Medals, official recognition for having bred a species in captivity for the first time. He published Australian parrots in captivity (1951) and updated Neville Cayley's Australian parrots in field and aviary (1973).
