<abstract>Edward Cornwall managed various businesses in north Queensland. He was a keen collector of bird skins and eggs and was also a nature photographer and lecturer on birds.</abstract>
<p>Born Malvern, Victoria, 10 May 1861. Died Mackay, Queensland, 24 November 1937. Member, first scientific expedition to visit King Island in Bass Strait 1877; scientific collecting trip to far north Queensland early 1880s, where he stayed for several years, collecting 10,000 bird skins and many thousands of clutches of birds' eggs, including some first sets of little-known species; visit to Victoria; Townsville; manager, Red Arcade, Cairns for several years; Manager, Shaw and Son, Mackay until retirement. Instrumental in forming the Field Naturalists Club of Cairns and its first president. Excellent nature photographer and bird lecturer. Contributed several articles to <span style="font-style:italic">The Emu</span> and also articles in other papers under the pen-name Mopoke. G.M. Mathews named <span style="font-style:italic">Podargus cornwalli</span> after him.</p>
