<p>Born Czechoslovakia, 16 September 1916. Studied optics in Paris. Optical factory, Czechoslovakia; fled via Rumania to Britain and then Australia; British Optical Company, Sydney; optical workshop, Commonwealth Solar Observatory, working for the Optical Munitions Panel.</p>
