Initially he worked for the Sydney Water Board, as a shire engineer on various county councils and also carried out defence works in eastern Australia. Later he worked for McDonald Constructions (ca 1947-1955) and then ran his own company (Stresscrete) for a brief period. Antill then worked as a consulting construction engineer from 1958 until his retirement in 1985. He also lectured part time at the universities of Sydney and New South Wales for many years. He served on many organisations - as Chairman, Civil Engineering Branch of the Institute of Engineers (Sydney Division); Standards Association of Australia's first Technical Committee on Prestressed Concrete; Construction Committee of the Metric Conversion Board (early 1960s); and the Institution of Engineers' Arbitration Committee.
