<abstract>Roy Latimer worked for the Cordite Factory (later Explosives Factory) at Maribyrnong 1926-1956 and was closely involved with the early production of TNT in Australia. He was one of those chemists who formed the hard core of experience in the munitions industry which was so vital to Australia during World War II.</abstract>
<p>Born Gympie, 23 November 1891. Died Melbourne, 29 July 1962. Educated University of Queensland. Public Analyst's Branch, Queensland State Public Service 1910-20, munitions production, England 1916-18 (TNT factory, Stockton-on-Tees and ammonium perchlorate factory, Langwirth), Chemist, Commonwealth Government acetate of lime factory, Cannon Hill, Queensland 1920-26, Research Laboratories (later Defence Standards Laboratories), Maribyrnong 1923, Cordite Factory (later Explosives Factory), Maribyrnong 1926-37, Chemist-in-Charge of the factory laboratory from 1937, later Head of Section until 1956.</p>
