<abstract>Louis Kiss worked for the State Electricity Commission of Victoria 1956-1984. He had a distinguished career as an industrial scientist in coal science and X-ray and electron beam analytical systems.</abstract>
<p>Born Hungary 7 March 1929. Died 16 April 1984. Educated University of Budapest (agricultural science), Royal Melbourne Technical College (Diploma of Applied Chemistry 1957) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (SM(MIT) 1969). Laboratory assistant, H.J. Heinz Co. Australia Ltd 1951-56, Fuel Research Laboratory, State Electricity Commission of Victoria 1956-84, Visiting Scientist, Central Electricity Research Laboratories UK ca 1969, leader, Material Physics Group, SECV 1970-75, head, SECV Coal Science Section 1976-84. Expert adviser for the UN International Development Organisation to the Turkish Government Research Institute on the installation and application of scanning electron microscopy equipment.</p>
