He was also President of the Tasmanian Branch of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute 1947. After leaving Tasmania, he took up a senior academic chemistry position at the University of Hong Kong, followed by posts as Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Ghana; Professor at University College in London; and in the Chemistry Department of the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology in Cardiff till 1976.
