<abstract>James Hood spent most of his career in the Food, Drugs and Toxicology Section of the Government Chemical Laboratories, Western Australia, rising to Director of the laboratories in 1955.</abstract>
<p>From "The Devil's Pooridge Museum" website: "James Chalmers Hood was born in Glasgow in 1896. His family emigrated to Australia, where he trained as a chemist. He returned to the UK during the Great War and worked at HM Gretna. <p>British Empire Medal. Educated Perth Technical College. Western Australia; Cadet, Explosives and Analytical Branch, Mines Department, Western Australia 1914, qualified as an analyst; and went to the United Kingdom to work at H.M. Factory, Gretna and H.M. Factory, Sutton Oak 1917-ca 1919. He returned to Western Australia to the Food, Drugs and Toxicology Section, Government Chemical Laboratories (chemist, Senior Chemist, acting Supervising Chemist, Deputy Government Analyst from ca 1946, director of the laboratories from 1955).</p>
