After completing a Diploma in Metallurgy at the Sydney Technical College, Dingle worked as an Apprentice in an iron factory. He then joined Sydney Smelting Company in 1938 as an Assayer and Analytical Chemist and was subsequently transferred to their Tasmanian and North Queensland operations before joining the Lismore laboratory.
