<abstract>William Chamberlain was first City Chemist for the Brisbane City Council from when it absorbed the Brisbane Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board in 1928 until he resigned in 1948. He joined the Queensland Turf Club to set up a laboratory for the analysis of equine biological fluids for drugs in January 1949 and retired in 1966. He also did a considerable amount of consultancy work, e.g. helping to design and implement the use of aerobic settling tanks for the purification of effluents from the K.R. Darling Downs meat works.</abstract>
<p>Born North Queensland, 1 September 1896. Died Brisbane, 2 June 1983. Educated University of Queensland (BSc 1919, MSc 1922, DSc 1948). Demonstrator in chemistry, University of Queensland 1920-21, chemist, Brisbane Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board 1923-29, City Chemist, Brisbane City Council 1928-48, laboratory work analysing equine biological fluids for drugs, Queensland Turf Club 1949-66. President, Queensland branch, Royal Australian Chemical Institute 1935-37.</p>
