<abstract>Bernard Zwar was honorary surgeon to in-patients at Melbourne Hospital from 1919, honorary consulting surgeon from 1935 and president of the committee of management 1937-1945. He was a leading force behind the move of the hospital to its site in Parkville. He also lectured in surgery at the University of Melbourne from 1924-1935.</abstract>
