Part of duties included hydrographic work which eventually brought him to Sydney. In 1939 he bought a station, Pomeroy, near Goulburn in New South Wales and became a leading pastoralist. Woore undertook survey work for the proposed railway at his own expense, for which he received no compensation. In 1867-1869 he was a member of the commission on the water-supply of Sydney and its suburbs and in his minority report vainly suggested building a dam at Warragamba.
