He began an ante-natal clinic there in 1912, the longest surviving continuous clinic in Australia. He was foundation professor of obstetrics at the University of Sydney 1925-1941. Windeyer was also a Foundation Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London (FRCOG) and chairman of its dominion reference committee (established in Australia 1932). He presided over the obstetrics and gynaecology section at several national meetings of the British Medical Association and was chairman of the medical appointments advisory committee of the Hospitals Commission of New South Wales. After completing his studies in Sydney, Windeyer worked as a medical officer at the Sydney Hospital where he trained in obstetrics and gynaecology.
