He facilitated the transition from making butter by hand to its production in centralised factories and drew up plans and articles of association for co-operative factory companies. Wilson arrived in Victoria in 1854 and initially worked as a dairy farmer in Inverleigh then Springbank. He was an early importer of cream separators, and introduced pasteurisation in the 1890s.
