<abstract>Emma Stone played a leading role in the formation of the Queen Victoria Hospital, Melbourne, which was funded by a jubilee shilling fund appeal and officially opened in July 1899.</abstract>
<p>Educated Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania, USA and University of Trinity College, Toronto, Canada (MD, ChM 1888). New Hospital for Women, London (qualifying as a licentiate of the Society of Apothecaries) 1889, first woman to register with the Medical Board of Victoria 1890, practised one day a week at the free dispensary attached to Dr Singleton's mission in Collingwood. Founded the Queen Victoria Hospital. Foundation member 1895 of the Victorian Medical Women's Society.</p>
