Henry Stephens was a paediatric surgeon who served the Children's Hospital, Melbourne from 1901-1946, becoming a member of the committee of management from 1946 to 1952. He was one of Australia's leading paediatric surgeons and was particularly interested in surgery of the cleft lip and palate. Stephens was also heavily involved in many external associations including the Royal Victorian College of Nursing and the Victorian Society for Crippled Children where he was a Councillor. The Henry Douglas Stephens Memorial Operating Theatre at the Children's Hospital was named in his honour.
