Robert Law worked for the Melbourne Mint as Assayer (1890-1918), Chief Assayer, Chemist and Refiner. He was a President of the Society of Chemical Industry of Victoria (1925-1929). Prior to arriving in Australia, Law attended the College of Science and Arts in Glasgow and worked there as assistant to Professor A.H. Sexton. Later he studied in Freiburg and gained first position in an examination in London for Assayer to the Melbourne Mint.
