<abstract>Jonathan Stone has been the Director of the Research School of Biological Sciences at the Australian National University since 2003, focussing on research concerning the stability and degeneration of the central nervous system, including dementia and a group of inherited eye diseases that affect the retina. Earlier in his career, he was Challis Professor of Anatomy, University of Sydney from 1987 to 2003. He is also interested in the problems caused by overpopulation of the earth.</abstract>
